I love the beautiful simplicity of a basic granny square. It was the first thing I learned to make. But I’m always after more of a challenge – pattern that’s different in every round. Which is why I saw this pattern called Esme’s Winter Cottage, I was chomping at the bit to give it a go.
I toyed around with what this was going to be. I already have a blanket going and didn’t fancy starting quite such a big project. Something that I really loved about the pattern is that there are tips for what you could pair with it to make a project. I decided to do a border of these Linen Stitch Squares and make a cushion cover.
I’ve done all the squares for one side of the cushion cover and I’ve inverted the colours for the second side. I’m using Stylecraft Special DK yarn in Turquoise, Spring Green and Silver. The pattern uses worsted weight yarn so I had to go down a hook size due to using DK and then I went down a bit more than that for the smaller squares as I found that the larger hook size suggested wasn’t working for me. So in the end I used a 4.5 mm hook for the main squares and a 6 mm hook for the smaller ones.
I will post pictures of the finished project and if you follow me on Instagram then I will post pictures of my progress.
